Real-life stories from Smile Community Centre Children’s Home

We’ve helped orphaned and vulnerable children to overcome many challenges. Here is one of their  touching stories

At  Birth , Angel  found herself in trouble after  her mum died. After her intensive care period, she was taken to live with her grandmother.

The death of her mum & absentee father together with poverty ailing her relatives  left  Angel at the mercy of life. If this case was not brought to us  she would have little or no chance of surviving.

The  smile community centre were able to work with Angel  to get her on the road to having her enjoy a  life full of love, joy & a promise of hope.

Here’s Angels story

LIFE BEFORE THE SMILE COMMUNITY CENTRE

Angel was born in the year 2012 as a premature child, unfortunately her mother died during giving birth.Good samaritans traced her old grandmother where she was taken in order to stay with her in the village. However because of extreme poverty, her grandmother was not in a position to educate her.

The local government chief through (NDHIWA) a women’s group where her grandmother was a member, was informed about the situation & was able to connect Angel to smile community centre where she would be assisted.

SUPPORT THROUGHOUT HER YOUNG LIFE

“ Our mother, Margret, helped me do things I didn’t know how to do.

She took me to school & I like the  food we eat with the other children. She also talks to us a lot about being clean & bathing.

I enjoy going to school & love the visitors who come to see us sometimes with cake .

I like singing. We sing a lot of good songs here.”

THE PRESENT AND FUTURE

“I love our new looking home after it was repaired.

I want to grow up & become a doctor so that I can treat sick children.I feel happy and thank God for  all the help I received from the people at the smile community centre.”

Margret : Founder and Sheila:Social worker said,

When we met Angel, she was very underweight and lacked self confidence to express herself. The first step we took was to take her to PHC hospital where she was checked by a doctor and  she was given special nutritional peanuts and tablets which helped her to recover.

After her recovery, we took her to Edelvale Primary school , a government school where she started to adjust to her new environment during the first weeks. She is now used to school and she was given support to know how to express herself. She is fully recovered. We have seen positive changes in her confidence, mood and wellbeing.
